If you divorced abroad in a country that doesn’t belong to the European Union the divorce order must be previously recognized in a court of law before it is valid and enforceable in Portugal.
The same applies if your divorce decree is older than 1 March 2001, even if the country belongs to the european union.
The recognition of the divorce decreed abroad follows a legal procedure in a court of law, after which it will be recognized in Portugal.
Our team of lawyers represent the petitioner in the lawsuit for the recognition of the foreign divorce judgement.
